Living in Hanover: Indoor Play (or, keeping the kiddoes busy when it’s too cold to play outside)

The weather has held up well enough so far this year (it was sunny and in the 60's yesterday!) so we've been enjoying lots of outdoor play while it's been so nice. However, as the days grow colder and daylight becomes more scarce we'll need to find other ways to keep ourselves busy. So, I've been making a list of indoor play and activity ideas for the kids and am once again pleasantly surprised that in our small community there are plenty of things to do:

  1. The Montshire Museum-  I've raved about this place before, and I know we will spend many hours here over the coming months.
  2. The Bounce House- this is a play area set up at a recreation center in Hanover every Monday and Thursday, with a bounce house, soft mats, balls, and other toys for indoor play.  The morning hours (10am-noon) are reserved for kids aged 4 and under, and older kids can join from noon until 2:30pm.
  3. Library Story Hours- We have a few local libraries close by, and each of them host playgroups and story hours for varying age groups. My youngest and I have gone to the Mother Goose playgroup at the Kilton library a few times and he loves the songs and fingerplays.  The Upper Valley Connections website has a calendar with the schedule for many of these play/story times (there's something just about every day of the week).
  4. Campion Rink- Ice skating! They have public skating hours, as well as classes for adults and children.
  5. Gymnastics Classes- This place is quite popular among the tiny tuckies.

This is not a comprehensive list, but a pretty good start. I am looking forward to fun outdoor winter wonderland play, but it's definitely nice to know that we'll also have plenty of options to keep us entertained while warm and dry. ; )
