While it's been quite some time since I've contributed to this blog, it's not for a lack of things to write about. Quite the opposite in fact, but it is last week’s hilariously fun event that has brought me back.
I have spoken many times about the ease in which Tuck Partners (TP) can get involved with the on-goings of student life. The months leading up to the week of Tuck Gives is a spectacular example of seamless participation.
Sixteen years ago, two Tuckies created a fund to support summer internships with nonprofit or public sector organizations. Now we raise money to supplement the compensation the nonprofit/public sector employers would be able to pay for MBA interns. This incents Tuck students to take positions that would otherwise offer significantly less compensation that what is typically paid for MBA internships. The funds are predominantly raised through an annual silent and a live auction. It's different from other business schools because it's peers raising for peers; lending to the warm & fuzzy feeling you can't help but feel at Tuck.
Auction items are donated by students, family members, faculty, and community businesses and range from a basket of favorite books from the TP Book Club to a week long vacation around the world or a group New Orleans styled dinner hosted by Dean Paul Danos.
Alongside the students, TPs played an integral role in soliciting donations from local businesses, organizing donations from the Tuck community, and planning decor for the live event. This year, one particular TP (ahem…yours truly) was asked to help emcee the evening! Needless to say, we partners played an integral role in helping things run smoothly around here.
The highlight of my week was running around campus and making this video as an opener to the evening. Our theme for the Live Auction was the Roaring 20s so we did a spin on a ridiculously popular music video (33.5million hits as of today).
Enjoy, imagine yourself in this video & share:
