How to Apply
Gaining admission to Tuck is competitive. The admissions committee has the challenge of selecting a target class size of 240 outstanding students from thousands of applications from around the world. Each year, the number of talented applicants far exceeds the number of offers we can extend. We do our best to determine which candidates will be the best match with Tuck.
If you have been successful academically and professionally and believe that Tuck is the right place for you, we encourage you to apply! We also encourage qualified applicants from all types of backgrounds to apply, including those who might not have traditional business experience.
Below are the components of the Tuck application process:
Application Form
Applicants must apply via our online application. If you are unable to do so, please contact the admissions office.
Each applicant must complete a Tuck application form (the exception is for applicants who apply via the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management—they must instead complete the Consortium application. For more information, see the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management page of this website).
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Tuck makes its applications available in alternative formats for applicants with special needs. For more information, please contact Cathy Trueba, director of student disabilities services, at 603-646-2014.
Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) Results
Tuck requires every applicant to take and self-report results (scores and percentiles) from the GMAT. Results should not be more than five years old. If you have taken the GMAT multiple times, please report only your highest two scores. For information on how to register to take the GMAT, please visit www.mba.com. Please use Tuck code Z04-NH-64 to direct your scores to Tuck.
Your application will not be considered complete without GMAT scores and percentiles reported on the application. You may take the GMAT up to the day before submitting your application. In those instances, you should submit your preliminary scores and forward any score revisions and your AWA score and percentile as soon as you receive them. We do not allow substitution or replacement of test scores after an application has been submitted.
Tuck accepts students with a range of GMAT scores. There is no minimum requirement. If you do not score well on any part of the GMAT or you feel that your score does not reflect your abilities, we encourage you to consider taking the exam again in an effort to improve your score.
If offered admission to Tuck, your self-reported GMAT test scores will be verified. Tuck reserves the right to rescind an offer of admission should any misrepresentation or omission occur.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) results
All non-native English speakers must take and self-report results from the TOEFL. The TOEFL requirement is waived for applicants who have recently lived for at least three years in an English-speaking country or have received a degree from an institution outside the U.S. where instruction is in English.
Results should not be more than two years old. If you have taken the TOEFL multiple times, please report only your highest score. We do not allow substitution or replacement of test scores after an application has been submitted. For information on how to register for the TOEFL, please visit the TOEFL website at www.toefl.org. Please use Tuck code 3351 on your TOEFL exam.
If offered admission to Tuck, your self-reported TOEFL test scores will be verified. Tuck reserves the right to rescind an offer of admission should any misrepresentation or omission occur.
Self-Reported Transcript
Information regarding your academic record must be reported by you on the self-reported transcript form, a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which can be downloaded from our website. You are required to include on the self-reported transcript form the same information contained on the official transcript from the institution(s) from which you obtained your undergraduate (bachelor's or first) degree and any graduate degrees. This information includes course names, course numbers, dates, grades, courses taken pass/fail, incomplete courses, and dropped courses. You will also be asked to provide information regarding courses taken outside of your undergraduate institution (transfer courses, study abroad programs, cross-registration). Please report your grades and scores using the scale employed by the institution you attended. If the institution did not use a 4.0 scale, do not convert scores to a 4.0 scale.
If admitted to Tuck, you must provide us with official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate courses taken, as well as any transfer courses, study-abroad programs, or post college nondegree courses, within 30 days of paying your enrollment deposit. If your institution has a policy of issuing only one official transcript, you may submit a copy validated by your school, a foreign affairs ministry, the Fulbright Commission, or a U.S. consular official. Students whose transcripts are not written in English must have their academic records translated and sent with an original copy. Tuck reserves the right to rescind an offer of admission should any misrepresentation or omission occur.
Essay Questions
The essay questions are an opportunity to help the admissions committee learn more about you as a potential member of the Tuck community. Please be clear, succinct, forthright, and thoughtful in your responses. Share what you truly feel, as opposed to writing what you think the admissions committee would like to read. There are no right or wrong answers. We do not allow substitution or replacement of essay responses after an application has been submitted.
Reapplicants should also complete the reapplicant essay. Tuck expects that the work contained in the essays is completely accurate and exclusively your own. Use of professional essay-writing services violates Tuck's admissions policies.
Confidential Statement of Qualifications (CSQ)
We require that you submit two CSQ forms. The forms should be given to two people who can comment on your professional leadership and intellectual capabilities. We have found that the most useful evaluations are from people who can speak with certainty about your leadership, maturity, team orientation, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills. If you are currently employed, we prefer to receive a CSQ from your direct supervisor or someone who knows you well and is in a position to judge your professional performance and leadership. If you are unable to provide a CSQ from a direct supervisor, please explain why in the optional essay section. If you are a college senior, submit one CSQ from a professor and one CSQ from a summer or former employer or someone who knows you through a leadership role. Generally, unless you are a college senior, we do not find CSQs from professors to be helpful in our evaluations.
Please contact your evaluators well in advance to give them sufficient time to write and return their evaluations by the application deadline. Given the importance we place on CSQs, we do not review any application until we have received the forms from both evaluators listed on your application. If your CSQs are received after the deadline for submission, your application will not be considered until the next round. It is your responsibility to make sure that your recommenders are aware of the deadlines and to ensure both CSQs have been submitted. If you would like to make changes to the evaluators you listed, please notify the admissions office in writing.
We encourage you to use the online CSQ form, which allows us to review your file more rapidly. If you must use a printed version, you may download a copy from this website. Please make sure your evaluators use your full name on the form. Any supplemental information should be written on institutional letterhead with the evaluator's title, address, telephone number, and email address (if applicable) clearly indicated. Tuck reserves the right to contact recommenders.
Each downloaded and printed form should be returned to: Admissions-CSQ, Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, 100 Tuck Hall, Hanover, NH 03755-9000, USA.
Interviews AND VISITS
We strongly encourage all applicants—including international applicants—to visit campus to experience Tuck's educational approach and community firsthand. During your visit, you will have the chance to tour the campus, attend a class, take part in a Q&A session, and meet students, professors, and staff. You may also interview during your visit if you have scheduled the interview in advance.
At Tuck, we believe that strong interpersonal skills are essential for success as a leader and a team player. Accordingly, admissions interviews play a critical role in the evaluation process and give us a more complete understanding of you as a candidate. Although not a required component of the application, we strongly recommend that all applicants (including re-applicants and international applicants) schedule an interview on campus.
Applicant-Initiated Interviews
Tuck offers all applicants the opportunity to interview on campus in Hanover. Interviews are scheduled online on a first-come, first-served basis and must be completed by the deadline for the round in which you are applying. Please note that all applicant-initiated interviews are conducted on campus only. To schedule an interview, visit the
Visit Us/Interview page of our website.
Committee-Initiated Interviews
If you have not scheduled an on-campus interview by the deadline, the admissions committee may invite you to interview. Invitations to interview are given only after an initial review of a candidate's application. Because we cannot invite all applicants to interview, we urge you to take advantage of the applicant-initiated on-campus interview. Committee-initiated interviews will be conducted on-campus, off-campus or by telephone.
On-campus interviews are conducted by admissions committee members and admissions associates (selected second-year students). Off-campus interviews are conducted by admissions committee members, admissions associates, or alumni interviewers. All interviews are evaluated equally, regardless of interviewer, location, or how initiated.
Nonrefundable Application Fee
Tuck requires each applicant to submit a nonrefundable application fee. The online application fee is $220, payable by Visa or MasterCard.
Statement of Honesty and Integrity
All applicants must agree to the Tuck Admissions Statement of Honesty and Integrity, which states: Tuck expects that the work contained in this application, including the essays and all accompanying materials, is completely accurate and exclusively your own. Tuck reserves the right to verify any information contained within this application. Tuck further reserves the right to rescind any offer of admission should it discover that any misrepresentation or omission occurred in the application process or if it learns that you have engaged in behavior prior to matriculation that indicates a lack of judgment or integrity.
Nondiscrimination Policy
At Tuck, we have long been committed to a policy against discrimination. Tuck does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, disability, marital or parental status, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of our educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, student housing programs, and other programs and activities. If you have questions regarding our compliance to this stated policy, please feel free to contact Dartmouth's Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity at 603-646-3197. Tuck is fully committed to the principle of equal opportunity in education and employment.
