Tuck Annual Giving: A Source of Pride

Tuck Annual Giving (TAG) is a way for Tuck alumni to support a new generation of students and ensure the continuing legacy of excellence at the school. In 2009, the alumni participation rate for TAG reached an impressive 65 percent. Our giving rate continues to set the standard among business schools. Our deepest thanks to alumni volunteers and donors who participate in TAG!

TAG Volunteers

Tuck has exceptionally supportive and involved alumni. More than 500 dedicated TAG alumni volunteers take great pride in their work—and it shows! Giving to TAG helps to bring the very best students and faculty to Tuck and helps create an environment that allows the thought leaders of the future to thrive.

Why Contribute to TAG?

  • Giving to TAG provides Tuck with the flexibility to direct money where it is needed most.
  • 50 percent of Tuck's operating budget comes from alumni support—including about 10 percent from TAG—allowing Tuck to remain true to its model of providing a world-class business leadership education while maintaining its scale and focus.
  • Alumni participation is a factor in the admissions process. The strong TAG participation rate sends a clear message to applicants that becoming part of the Tuck family is a unique opportunity with a lifetime of benefits.
  • New full-time faculty members have been hired to expand the depth and breadth of expertise at Tuck. Your gift can help Tuck continue to attract the best talent in teaching and research.
  • Competition among peer schools for the best students is intense. Increased expectations by students for the best educational programs, services, and faculty place new demands on Tuck.  Even in challenging economic time, the cost of attracting and retaining superior faculty members continues to increase due to competition from other top schools and private industry.
  • Tuck provides for 100 percent of the demonstrated financial need of its students. The majority of Tuck students receive some form of financial aid.
  • The greatest challenge of leadership is not attaining it, but retaining it. A gift to TAG allows Tuck to develop new programs, build upon its strengths, and compete for students and faculty.
  • It feels good to know you're giving back to the school that gave—and continues to give—you so much: an outstanding education, lifelong friendships, extraordinary professional opportunities, and more.

TAG Class Scholars Program

Classes that donate $150,000 or more (T'95 and earlier) or $100,000 or more (T'96-T'09) to TAG will be given the designation of "TAG Scholar" and will sponsor a named scholarship student for one year. Class members will be notified of their TAG Scholar student after the close of the TAG campaign.

Reunion Giving

Reunions are a time for celebration and reflection. Once every five years, Tuck asks all alumni to celebrate their reunion by making an increased or "stretch" gift to TAG. In October, alumni are invited back to campus for Reunion weekend. This is a great time to catch up with classmates and to reflect upon what your Tuck education, experience, and friendships mean to you. It's also a time to reexperience Tuck and educate yourself in any number of Tuck Alumni Lifelong Learnings (TALL) sessions with world-renowned Tuck faculty. Tuck increasingly relies upon generous reunion giving to provide the very best for its students.

To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, enter your company's name on Tuck's matching gift page at www.matchinggifts.com/tse. If your company is eligible, you can request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest. The impact of your gift to Tuck may be doubled, tripled, or possibly more! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.

If your company uses its own online matching gift form, please email your completed form to tuck.annual.giving@dartmouth.edu, or print and mail the form to:

Donor Advised Funds

Tuck Annual Giving is grateful to be designated to receive a gift from your donor advised fund (Fidelity, Vanguard, etc.). Tuck is recognized under the umbrella of "Trustees of Dartmouth College" for federal tax purposes. Some donor advised funds do list Tuck School of Business as a sub-category under Dartmouth. If your fund does not list Tuck, please indicate "Tuck Annual Giving" as the purpose of your gift on your grant recommendation form. The Dartmouth and Tuck gift recording offices work together to reconcile all incoming gifts to ensure they are credited appropriately to TAG.

Unrestricted Gifts

Gifts to TAG provide about 10 percent of the school's operating budget each year. These unrestricted gifts allow the school to respond to arising needs in a flexible manner and help to keep Tuck affordable for a great number of qualified students. Gifts to TAG are critical because in the current market conditions Tuck cannot rely on endowment to fully fund its core programs. Unrestricted gifts also reduce Tuck's dependency on tuition revenue and provide Tuck with vital resources that affect every student and every area of the school.

Numbering over 500 strong, TAG volunteers are the backbone of every TAG campaign. Leading the way are TAG Executive Committee members who help set the direction for TAG each year. TAG Head Agents (or Co-Head Agents) coordinate TAG Assistant Head Agents to contact classmates and encourage them to give back to Tuck. TAG Corporate Agents focus on achieving 100 percent participation in giving to TAG among Tuck alumni within their companies or firms. International Agents work in countries around the world to encourage Tuckies living outside the U.S. to keep Tuck among their philanthropic priorities every year. If you wish to volunteer as a TAG Agent, Corporate Agent, International Agent, or have questions about accessing the volunteer site, please contact us at tuck.alumni.services@tuck.dartmouth.edu.
