Global Supply Chain Management: Shifting Strategies Photo Bechtel Park, Frederick, MD

The Center for Digital Strategies' U.S. and European Roundtable Chapters convened on October 15, 2009 at Bechtel's offices in Frederick, MD. The discussion focused on Global Supply Chain Management. The following companies and agencies participated: ABB, Bechtel, BT, Eaton, Hilti, Holcim, IBM, and Nestle. Academics from the Georgetown University and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth also participated in the session.

This day long Roundtable discussed the vast array of challenges corporations face today including the ongoing pressure to cut costs against the need for reliable, high quality sourcing. Topics included:

  • Specific strategies for managing risk
  • Global sourcing and fractured supply chains
  • Building supplier relationships
  • The "green elephant in the room" - cost or risk?
  • Information Systems needed for transparency, trust, monitoring and metrics
