"A large volume of research shows that most people self-enhance. They are motivated by the desire to see themselves in the most positive light, even when such positive evaluations are not supported by facts. For executives, self-enhancement may be the greatest barrier to leadership effectiveness because it acts like an information filter, limiting the ability to see and accept negative information."
