Living in Hanover

For two years, Tuck will be the center of your world but not your entire world. Fun, recreation, and cultural diversion are all nearby and easy to reach. Favorite destinations include Vermont's legendary ski slopes, the cosmopolitan attractions of nearby cities—or fun that's right around the corner in Hanover.

Dartmouth regularly brings acclaimed attractions in music, theater, and film to the Hopkins Center for the Arts, including the only East Coast showing of the Telluride Film Festival. Recent concerts have included John Hiatt, Nickel Creek, Béla Fleck, Bruce Cockburn, Keb' Mo', George Winston, and The Cowboy Junkies. And each summer, the Big Apple Circus visits Hanover. The collection of the Hood Museum of Art—one of the oldest and largest college museums in the United States—includes works of Monet, Rodin, Miro, and Rembrandt and offers several traveling exhibitions each year. The college sponsors many renowned speakers and writers in fields ranging from politics to science to the arts. David McCullough, Maxine Hong Kingston, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Warren Rudman are among recent visitors. The college also supports a broad network of affinity and cultural groups that welcome Tuck students.

Northern New England calls people outdoors all year long and makes it easy to enjoy one of the nation's most spectacular natural settings. You don't have to spend hours in the car to take a hike, paddle a kayak, or hit the ski slope. In addition to extensive athletic and fitness facilities, Dartmouth has its own 18-hole golf course, downhill ski area, and canoe club. And novices are welcome.

The Upper Valley also boasts a range of family-friendly attractions, such as the nearby Montshire Museum of Science, the Billings Farm and Museum, Dartmouth's riding center, and local libraries that offer story times, puppet shows, and other community events.

And when the craving for urban excitement hits, Tuck students head to the lights of New York, Boston, or Montreal, easily accessible by car, bus, or train.
