I chose Tuck because it has a deep network in venture capital, a reputation for having responsive alumni, and a proximity to the outdoors. I couldn't have made a better choice.
In the spring of my first year I applied for a fellowship in the Center for Private Equity and Entrepreneurship, and I was thrilled to be chosen by peers and alumni to be one of their MBA fellows. The center conducts research and hosts visitors and lecturers who are experts in the field of private equity. As a fellow, I hosted many visitors and had fantastic opportunities to develop relationships with people like Bruce Rauner from GTCR Golder Rauner, Peter Barris T'77 from New Enterprise Associates, and Ed Glassmeyer T'68 from Oak Investment Partners, among others. These senior practitioners take a real interest in the students, and I continued dialogue with each of them since their visit.
I was co-chair of the 2007 Private Equity and Growth Ventures Conference. The goal of the conference was to enhance the Tuck network in the private equity industry, to educate and enlighten Tuck students and alumni on trends in the industry, and to facilitate networking. We had a tremendous group of panelists, and it was a sell-out event. Being a fellow in the center gave me important outside-of-class opportunities to build relationships, open doors, and expand my network with the Tuck alumni base.
Coming to Tuck was absolutely the right choice. The unique close knit community, responsive network, and PE domain expertise far exceeded my expectations.
