At Tuck: MBA/MPA Candidate
|
After six years as a Naval intelligence officer and liaison to commercial petroleum, shipping, and maritime entities in the Middle East, Brad Davis D'99, T'09 has set his sights on a career in the international energy market. Now pursuing an MBA/MPA through the dual-degree program Tuck has established with Harvard, Davis has received an assist in this ambitious effort by way of a Zuckerman Fellowship.
The Zuckerman Fellowship is awarded by Harvard to foster "leadership for the common good." It is given to people in the fields of medicine, law, or business who are pursuing graduate degrees in public service at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, Graduate School of Education, or School of Public Health.
"Serving in a capacity that had me engaged in both the military and commercial realms gave me a unique insight in the potential for economic development to bring stability to a troubled region," Davis says.
A Tuck MBA, he adds, will give him solid business management skills that, coupled with his knowledge of the Middle East, will enable him to work effectively within the energy industry. "I hope to leverage the training of the dual-degree program to address the unique economic and political challenges posed by America's energy demands," he says. Ultimately, Davis hopes his experiences will lead him to work in a senior government position where he can help formulate American foreign policy.
It was these stated ambitions that helped Davis become one of the 25 Zuckerman Fellows named this year—and the first ever from Tuck since the fellowship's inception in 2004. The award provides him a full year of tuition to Harvard, health insurance, and a $30,000 stipend. After spending his first year at Tuck, Davis will complete his work at Harvard and then return to Tuck to graduate with the class of 2009.
"I am excited for Brad to have earned such an outstanding opportunity," says Sally Jaeger, Tuck's assistant dean and director of the MBA program. "His selection as a Zuckerman Fellow speaks to the level of ambition and intellect he applies to all of his academic and professional endeavors. I fully expect we will be hearing a lot more about Brad Davis' accomplishments in the future!"
