As soon as I was accepted at Tuck, I began receiving emails from students. One from Leela Damm T'06 expressed her excitement about the school's Burns Night—a traditional event
honoring Scotland's national poet—and about having another Scot at Tuck. She and another countryman, Alasdair Trotter T'07, involved me in organizing the next Burns Night. I thought I'd be there just to help, but Tuck is all about giving people leadership opportunities. So just weeks after arriving here, I ended up driving the event!
I'd heard the Tuck community was responsive, but it was surprising to me how fast faculty and alumni—some of whom I had not met—responded to my requests for assistance and how generous they were with time and resources. These are people who are really interested in your success and your contribution to the school. I'd knock on a faculty member's door to ask a favor and end up conversing for half an hour about my life and my future.
The Tuck community is hard to envisage before you get here. But when you are here, you're suddenly pulled into it. You've got something to give, and people are so appreciative of that.
