At Tuck: MD/MBA

When Stacey Crawford T'07 started medical school, she didn't anticipate wanting to learn spreadsheet modeling and accounting to succeed in her career. But as her post-medical school plans evolved to include working on global health issues at a nonprofit, she decided that Dartmouth and Tuck's joint MD/MBA program offered the best preparation.
Crawford knew she wanted to be a doctor by the time she was six years old. After graduating from Northwestern University, Crawford spent a year working in human resources for a Chicago software company before returning to her original career path. She headed to Boston, where she took science classes through an extension program at Harvard University and worked at a health clinic for the homeless.
During her years at Dartmouth Medical School, Crawford's post-graduation plans shifted—internal medicine, radiology, neurology, and family medicine all captured her interest. After learning more about the AIDS epidemic and the need for more global health education, she decided she'd like to practice family medicine and be involved with a nonprofit like the Global Health Council.
"Many doctors working for international nonprofits have little business experience, but the MD/MBA degree will allow me to bring medical understanding and business acumen to health problems," Crawford says. "I'm really excited about using my MBA to provide that missing link in the nonprofit sector."
