"I owe Tuck a lot. Personally and professionally. For starters, my wife and I met as Tuck classmates. And then my first job after Tuck came as a direct result of a consulting project I did for the technology course I took second year. Tuck alums gave me a foothold in the entertainment industry when I was still a student. The credibility of the Tuck MBA continues to help me as I interact with business leaders throughout Asia. And the skills that I gained while a student resonate every day of my career.
"Before business school it may be almost impossible to understand the enormous value of a general management education. Somewhere during those first few weeks at Tuck I began to appreciate the benefits of the choice I made. I came to Tuck with strictly a marketing background—you could have voted me least likely to become a general manager. I broadened my knowledge base, sharpened my skills. And now it's who I am. I look at my desk and it's covered with such a range of specialties—balance sheets and carry-forwards on top of marketing presentations and sales projections. My education enables me to be effective. I'm not an accountant, but I am able to understand what my accountants are doing. I'm able to be a good boss.
"Tuck's emphasis on worldwide issues is another critical success element. Globalization is essential in business today, and the education you get at Tuck applies around the world. But as far around the globe as my work takes me, I find myself drawn back to the campus. I like to reach out to current students in the way that alums did for me. I try to be responsive and point them in the right direction. And of course, I recruit at Tuck. I was there interviewing recently. As always, I liked what I saw."
