Emeritus Professor Wayne Broehl Passes Away

Wayne G. Broehl Jr., the Benjamin Ames Kimball Professor of the Science of Administration, Emeritus, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2006, at his home at Kendal at Hanover at the age of 83.

Broehl joined Tuck in 1954 and retired in 1987. He taught many courses at Tuck over the years but will be best remembered for his courses in business environments and agribusiness.

Although his academic career was long and distinguished, he was still very active until recently. Broehl was just finishing his third volume on the history of the Cargill corporation. He is particularly well known for two other books, The Molly Maguires, published in 1964, and John Deere's Company, published in 1984. Broehl also wrote Tuck and Tucker: The Origin of the Graduate Business School, which was published in 1999.

Tuck was very important to Professor Broehl, and he was very important to Tuck. We will miss his gentle presence and many contributions.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth (the white church) at 40 College Street in Hanover.
