End-of-Year Giving
Holiday Break Schedule
Thank you for your support. The Tuck School will be on holiday break from December 24, 2008 through January 4, 2009. We will return to our regular business hours on Monday, January 5, 2009.
All of us at Tuck wish you a joyful holiday season!
Giving back to Tuck is the perfect way to end the year. There are several ways you can give to the school before the end of this calendar year. To ensure deductibility in the 2008 tax year for your gift to Tuck, please read the instructions below carefully.
•Credit Card Gifts
Tuck Annual Giving:
Please visit the TAG giving web page at www.givetotuck.org to make a secure credit card gift. The TAG office will have limited staffing during the break. Credit card gifts made on or before midnight Eastern Standard Time on December 31, 2008 will be credited in calendar year 2008.
If you choose to mail your credit card information to Tuck for processing, it must be received in Tuck’s Gift Recording Office by 12/31/08. Regardless of the postmark date, any credit card gifts received after 12/31 by mail will be processed in the New Year and will not be deductible on your 2008 tax return.
Credit Card Payments on Capital Pledges or for Gifts to Other Tuck Designations:
In order to be credited for deductibility in the 2008 tax year, arrangements must be made through Nancy Katz (603-646-3934) prior to the holiday break.
•Make a gift of stock:
Assets must be received in Dartmouth's account by December 31st to be considered a 2008 gift for tax purposes. Please bear in mind that the brokerage firms are constrained by year-end holiday hours and high transaction volumes. It is best for donors to get their order in prior to the holidays in order to ensure a current-year gift date for tax purposes.
To make a gift of stock, you or your broker must contact Barb Ibey in the Dartmouth College Investment Office (603-646-3201) or the general office (603-646-2445) for transfer instructions. If both Investment phone numbers are busy, calls will go into voicemail and the Investment Office will call back.
If you experience difficulty reaching the Investment Office, please call the Gift Planning Office (6-3799). The Investment Office will be operating December 24, 29 and 30. The Investment Office will be closed on December 31, 2008, but Gift Planning will be staffed to respond to questions related to stock gifts, wire transfers, and credit card giving until 5:00 PM on December 31 (603-646-3799 or 800-451-4067).
Please be sure to let Barb know the specific allocation of your gift to Tuck when you speak with her by phone. Or, you may email Barb at Barbara.ibey@dartmouth.edu.
•Make a gift by check to count in calendar year 2008:
If you wish to make a gift by check and would like it to count for calendar year 2008, please be sure the envelope is postmarked on or before December 31, 2008. All checks received in January with a December postmark will be credited in the 2008 calendar year. If your gift arrives with a January postmark it will be credited in 2009. Last minute gifts sent via FedEx and UPS will be credited based on the date received - not the date mailed.
Please make your check out to the Tuck School of Business and mail to:
Andy Steele T'79 or Dave Celone
Office of Development and Alumni Services
Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth
100 Tuck Hall
Hanover, NH 03755
Please be sure to specify any instructions for how you wish your gift to be allocated: as a TAG gift, to pay a capital pledge, or to designate the gift for another purpose.
•IRA Rollover - PROVISION EXTENDED THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2009
The IRA Rollover provision that was extended in the recent $700 Billion Federal bailout package allows individuals who are 70-1/2 or older to make a tax-free distribution of up to $100,000 from an IRA to the Tuck School or other charities, subject to certain qualifications listed here: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~gpo/IRA.htm.
It is important that Tuck and/or the Dartmouth Gift Recording Office be notified that a check or electronic transmittal from an IRA is coming, including from what specific financial institution and the identity of the donor. Please notify Kathleen Martin, the Dartmouth Gift Recording Secretary if you plan to make an IRA Rollover gift to Tuck this year. Kathleen can be reached by email at kathleen.c.martin@dartmouth.edu or by phone at 603-646-1298.
•Pledges
The 2009 Tuck Annual Giving Campaign will come to a close in five short months on May 1, 2009. We gratefully accept pledges to be fulfilled at a later date in the campaign via our online web portal at www.givetotuck.org or via mail addressed to
