Alumni reconnected with classmates and attended lifelong learning classes during the Tuck in London event.
Tuck in London
Hundreds of Tuck School alumni return to campus from around the world to reconnect with classmates at their reunions. And thanks to a new series introduced this year, alumni can connect with classmates, professors, staff, and other Tuck grads overseas. Tuck in London, the first in the Tuck-on-the-road series, drew 49 alumni from 10 countries, as well as Tuck officers and staff, to the One Aldwyich hotel in London on October 21, 2006.
More than just a social occasion, the series is an opportunity to revisit the classroom and learn from Tuck faculty. In London, classes were held by three professors. Colin Blaydon, William and Josephine Buchanan Professor of Management, spoke about the growing influence of private equity in the global economy. Kevin Lane Keller, E.B. Osborn Professor of Marketing, discussed branding in the 21st century. Keynote speaker Matthew Slaughter, associate professor of business administration, discussed the future of the global economy and his role as a member of the president's Council of Economic Advisers in Washington, D.C. And Dean Paul Danos brought alumni up to date on the status of the school.
"The day was filled with wonderful Tuck spirit and energy," says Gina des Cognets T'01, Tuck's associate director of annual giving and alumni services, who attended the event. "We had great questions from alums during the faculty talks. People enjoyed getting to catch up with each other and with Tuck faculty."
The class of 2001 scored points for best representation, with eight members present. N. Sebastian Bacchus T'99 from Seattle, Tore Rynning Nielsen T'85 from Oslo, and Magdalena Baeva T'04 from Barcelona were recognized for traveling the longest distance to attend. Other countries recognized at the event included Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Tuck in London was sponsored by the Osman Tuck Alumni Lifelong Learning Program (Osman TALL Program), which is funded by a gift from Stephen Osman T'57 and his wife, Harley. Through this program, alumni are able to meet Tuck faculty and learn about their research in classes around the world.
Professor Keller calls the event rewarding and a real treat for everyone. "It was great to connect with a varied set of alumni both on a social basis and on an educational basis," he says. "Tuck alums clearly recognize the importance of lifelong learning—and they were ready, willing, and able to throw themselves back into a classroom-type setting."
