HANOVER, N.H. - Paul Danos, dean of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and Santiago Iniguez de Onzono, dean of Instituto de Empresa in Spain, have created BizDeansTalk (www.deanstalk.net), the first international blog to be run jointly by a business school in the U.S. and in Europe. Its goal is to provide a platform for debate on postgraduate education, business education, and issues related to the management training sector. The project's co-author and mediator is Della Bradshaw, editor of the "Business Education" section of the Financial Times.
The creation of the blog is in line with the innovative approach of Tuck and Instituto de Empresa, both pioneers in the use of new technologies in training programs. BizDeansTalk features the thoughts and experiences of the deans of the two schools and others in the business community, who analyze and offer opinions on a broad range of subjects, including the differences between American and European business school models, senior management issues, business ethics, the Bologna process, corporate social responsibility in business schools, and more.
"As business education spreads around the world, it is important that educators from different cultures have a forum to communicate best practices in our industry," says Danos. "Topics such as training and rewarding professors, new courses, length of programs, age of participants, and fundraising are all evolving. We expect this new means of communication to facilitate an open discussion and lead to improvements in all of our schools."
"The creation of the blog constitutes an exceptional opportunity for dialogue, and the exploration and dissemination of knowledge," notes Iniguez de Onzono. "The immediacy and international scope of blogs will lead to their becoming a primary vehicle for communication in the business community."
The international nature of the blog permeates the website, which features contents in English, German, French, and Spanish, making participation diverse, active, and user-friendly for bloggers. The new channel provides a platform where the deans and others can comment on current issues in the training sector and express their opinions freely, and gives readers a place where they can get information and, if they wish, post their own opinions.
BizDeansTalk is open to the business school community. Invited as guest authors and commentators are deans, professors, program directors, students, alumni, accrediting agencies, and recruiters, many of whom have already joined this virtual discussion to form part of the global debate.
