HANOVER, N.H.—In March, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth will officially launch its Mexico Initiative, following the success of an innovative pilot program begun last autumn in Mexico and the southern United States. The pilot program was established to further increase Tuck's presence and knowledge of its programs, faculty, students, and network throughout the region. Dean Paul Danos will travel to Mexico City March 23-24 to formally kick off the initiative and participate in events with admitted students, alumni, businesspeople, and representatives from top Mexican universities.

The fall pilot program, launched in Dallas and Houston, Texas, and Mexico City and Monterrey, Mexico, involved several Tuck departments, including Admissions, the Career Development Office, Executive Education, Alumni Services, the MBA Program Office, and Public Relations. Katherine Rivet T'99 was hired to serve as the Tuck representative for this project. Rivet, based in Monterrey, Mexico, will also spearhead the Mexico Initiative and continue to support Tuck departments' various activities and programs throughout the country. In her role as a Tuck representative, Rivet will create and strengthen relationships between Tuck and prospective students, as well as with businesses, local press, recruiters, and Mexican business schools.

"Katherine brings several different perspectives to this position—as a Tuck alumna, partner, and former member of our Career Development Office," said Danos. "Her in-depth knowledge of Tuck's programs will greatly benefit the school as we expand our efforts in Mexico and will be an invaluable resource for the prospective students, businesspeople, and academic institutions with which she interacts."

Over the last several years, Tuck has seen increased interest from MBA-program applicants from Mexico. Mexican applications through the first three rounds for the class of 2008 have increased more than 50 percent, compared with the number of Mexican applications submitted at this time last year. Mexican students from the current classes of 2006 and 2007 came to Tuck from leading organizations such as CEMEX, Empresas ICA Sociedad, the Finance Ministry of Mexico, and Unilever.

As part of the Mexico Initiative, Tuck will offer Latin American students increased financial aid assistance. Effective with applicants to the incoming class of 2008, Tuck will double the number of scholarships awarded to students from Latin America.

Current Mexican Tuck students are working to grow the school's brand in Mexico. Students involved in Tuck's Ambassador Program serve as resources for prospective students interested in gaining a better perspective about Tuck and its MBA program and are looking to organize events in the country for current students, alumni, and prospective students this spring. In addition, Tuck's Mexican ambassadors are working on a website where more information about Mexican Tuck alumni will be available.
