HANOVER, N.H.—The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth will host its 22nd annual Run for the Kids road race around campus on May 13. The festive 5K/10K event, including a Kids' Fun Run, is entirely student organized and will benefit three Upper Valley charities that address children's health needs: David's House; Child and Family Services (CFS) Upper Valley; and the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) Child Life Program. The race is open to the public, and all are welcome to join the fun.
The popular race begins at 9:00 a.m. at Tuck Circle and continues throughout Hanover. The post-race attractions include a free cookout and ice-cream party at the finish line. During the awards ceremony, prizes will be given to the winners of such race categories as fastest runner overall, fastest in each age group, and more.
"Run for the Kids is an occasion for the entire Upper Valley community to come together and join people from Tuck and Dartmouth for a good cause," said Greg Butz, a second-year Tuck student and co-chair of the event.
Last year's event involved more than 300 runners and helped to raise over $12,000 for Upper Valley children's charities. Proceeds come from both race entry fees and sponsor donations. This year's Gold corporate sponsors include Deutsche Bank, Flagstone Reinsurance, and The Parthenon Group. Silver sponsors include Brooks Sports, Deere & Company, Eaton Corporation, and JPMorgan Chase & Co.
David's House is a home-away-from-home for families with children being treated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Although daily operating costs average $80 per room, David's House requests only $10 per night for rooms and meals, and families are never turned away if they are unable to pay. Donations help defray the remaining costs.
Through its Child Life Program, CHaD provides opportunities for children and families to develop a better understanding about hospitalization and illness in order to minimize psychological trauma. Run for the Kids' donations are used to purchase toys, games, and other supplies for the ChaD program center.
Child and Family Services (CFS) Upper Valley is an independent, nonprofit agency providing an array of social services aimed to advance the well-being of children and to strengthen family life. Funds raised through Run for the Kids will help support services to Upper Valley communities.
