HANOVER, N.H.—The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth placed #4 in this year's Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) ranking of the world's top 100 full-time MBA programs. The annual ranking is based on four factors the EIU has identified as the primary reasons why students pursue an MBA: to open new career opportunities (weighted at 35%), for personal development and educational experience (35%), to increase salary (20%), and to build a professional network (10%).
The top five schools in the EIU's ranking include University of Chicago, Stanford, IESE (Spain), Tuck School, and IMD (Switzerland). In the subcategory of opening new career opportunities, Tuck placed fifth among American programs and eighth overall in the world. An accompanying article cites Tuck students' high satisfaction with their Career Development Office, noting that the school "is lauded for their career services."
Data for the EIU ranking was collected during spring 2007 in two web-based questionnaires, one for business schools and one for students and recent graduates. To provide a more rounded picture, final rankings are based on a weighted average of the past three years.
"As always, I'm pleased when the media recognizes the excellence of our learning community here at Tuck, particularly in such a global and student-centric ranking," says Paul Danos, dean of the Tuck School of Business. "But it's also important to note that each of the six major rankings employs its own methodology and no single one can give a true picture of the value of our program or of any other program for that matter. As always, of course, we remain focused on our goal of providing students with the very best MBA experience in the world."
The EIU regularly surveys MBA students (current students and recent alumni) on why they pursue an MBA. These factors are the basis for the ranking. Results can be found online at Which MBA online. The full rankings report will be published in the forthcoming Which MBA? guide. The EIU is the business information arm of The Economist Group, publisher of The Economist magazine.
Founded in 1900, Tuck is the first graduate school of management in the country and consistently ranks among the top business schools worldwide.
