HANOVER, N.H.—On September 12-13, eight Tuck School of Business students will test their teamwork skills by taking part in the Reach the Beach Relay, the longest distance running relay race in the United States. The event, a 24-hour, 200-mile run across New Hampshire, will begin at Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch and end at Hampton Beach.
"The race will help set the tone for a great second year," Jenny Farrelly T'09 says. "It is something that not only excites our team but our whole class."
Running as the Tuck 2009 team, the students are relying on the teamwork skills they learned during their first year. Each team member will run a leg of the race, covering about 20 miles of New Hampshire's countryside, while the rest of the team cheers on from the transportation van.
"During my first year at Tuck, I was motivated to work harder when I had a group of classmates counting on me. Similarly, I expect I'll be running a bit faster knowing I've got a team of runners depending on me," Jenn Blazejewski T'09 says. "No one wants to be the weak link!"
For some Tuck 2009 team members, participating in the Reach the Beach Relay has been a long-term goal. For others, running in the relay is a way to bond with classmates and meet an exercise challenge before the busy school year. All Tuck 2009 team members agree that running the relay is a great way to start their second year at Tuck, and hope it will become an annual tradition.
Founded in 1900, Tuck is the first graduate school of management in the country and consistently ranks among the top business schools worldwide. Tuck remains distinctive among the world's great business schools by combining human scale with global reach, rigorous coursework with experiences requiring teamwork, and valued traditions with innovation.
