HANOVER, N.H.—On Saturday, May 9, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth will host the 25th annual Run for the Kids. The student-organized charity road race features a 10K run, a 5K walk/run, and a 1K kids' fun run. A yearly tradition at Tuck, Run for the Kids provides students with an enjoyable opportunity to give back to their community. As in previous years, funds raised will go to three local nonprofit organizations: David’s House; the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD); and Upper Valley Child and Family Services. All races are open to the public.

In its 25-year history, the Run for the Kids has raised more than $174,000. Last year, more than 250 runners registered, and the daylong event raised approximately $14,000 for the local charities. This year, Tuck students want to raise even more funds for the charities by enlisting even greater community participation.

"This is a fantastic community event because it is not only a family-friendly, heart-healthy way to shake off the winter cobwebs, it's a way for people to come together, have fun, and celebrate a good cause," says Caroline Newcomb, second-year student and co-chair of the event.  "We are thankful to our platinum sponsor Flagstone RE and gold sponsor Hypertherm for making this year’s race possible. Tuck students are particularly proud of the race tradition as it’s emblematic of our enthusiasm for giving back to our local community, which we are so fortunate to call home for two years."

Race day check-in for racers and volunteers is from 8-8:40 a.m. in Tuck Circle on the Dartmouth College campus. The race starts at 9:00 a.m. and finishes in Tuck Circle. Runners can register before the race at www.runforthekids.org or www.active.com. The first 300 racers will receive a free t-shirt.

David's House is a home away from home for families with children being treated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Although daily operating costs average $80 per room, David's House requests only $10 per night for rooms and meals, and families are never turned away if they are unable to pay. Donations help defray the remaining costs.

Through its Child Life Program, CHaD provides opportunities for children and families to develop a better understanding of hospitalization and illness to minimize psychological trauma. Run for the Kids donations are used to purchase toys, games, and other supplies for the ChaD program center.

Upper Valley Child and Family Services is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the well-being of children by providing an array of social services to strengthen family life and by promoting community commitment to the needs of children. Funds raised through Run for the Kids will help support services to Upper Valley communities.
