Global Business Perspectives: Dr.… During a visit to Tuck to participate in the Tuck India Business Conference, Dr. S. Aravind offered his views about affordable health care for large populations, especially as it relates to eye care in India. He explained that the leaders at the successful Aravind Eye Hospital have capitalized on two kinds of innovation: game-changing and incremental. The game-changing innovation only comes along once or twice a decade, while the incremental innovation happens every day while constantly learning and improving patient care and ensuring that the staff is also taken care of. Dr. Aravind is the director of projects at Aravind Eye Hospital.

CISO vs Adversary -… Members of Dartmouth ISTS's Security, Technology & Society High School Summer Camp explore current interdisciplinary research in cyber security and privacy with regard to information sharing technologies and the implications they have on our lives. Led by a team of Dartmouth graduate students and post-doctoral researchers, these high school students engage in hands-on and interactive activities, augmented with field trips and guest speakers focusing on the human interaction in social computing, digital forensics, economic models, mobile sensors and informatics in health care systems. The students visit Tuck to participate in a "Health Care Security Investment Game" developed by the Center for Digital Strategies' Research Fellow, Juhee Kwon and Gabriel Weaver, a 4th year doctoral student in the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth. This game exemplifies the real-world business implications of information security through concrete experiences of Chief Information Security Officers (CISO) contenting with adversaries and hackers.

Tuck India Business Conference… The 2011 Tuck India Business Conference explored the theme "Ideas from India: Innovating with Limited Resources." The three panel discussions covered different aspects of innovation: Emerging Innovations in Healthcare Delivery, Creating Value at the Base of the Pyramid, and Bringing Indian Innovations to the World. The keynote address by prominent spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was titled "Inner Engineering for Business Success." Sadhguru offered his thoughts on the fundamental connections between inner well being and work and career.

China, Patents and U.S.… Professor Matt Slaughter talks about recent labor market statistics and how improving intellectual property protection in China could create over 2 million jobs in America. The International Trade Commission reported that U.S. firms believed that improved intellectual property rights protection in China could boost their annual revenues by as much as 20% and that would allow them to hire more workers. The broader message for Washington is if the U.S. is to have real growth, monetary and fiscal stimulus will eventually need to be replaced with innovative policy initiatives that spark private sector hiring and related investment.

Why America Needs Both… Professor Matt Slaughter talks about the importance of resolving the current dispute over trade agreements and Trade Adjustment Assistance. In an op-ed in the New York Times, he and Robert Lawrence (from Harvard's Kennedy School) urge Congress and the President to ratify pending free-trade agreements with South Korea, Columbia, and Panama while at the same time rethinking how the government supports workers who lose jobs or wages because of dislocations created by international trade. Both actions are necessary for the health of the economy.
