New Director for CIB

Tuck’s Center for International Business (CIB) has a new director. Professor Andrew Bernard, Jack Byrne Professor of International Economics at Tuck, has taken the reins from Professor Joe Massey, who begins his retirement this year. Bernard is an expert in international trade and investment and specializes in firms’ responses to globalization. His current research focuses on transfer pricing by U.S. exporters and the role of multinationals in international trade and production. Bernard has set aggressive goals for the CIB for the coming years, focusing on bringing more international activity to Tuck and expanding the school’s activities around the world.

“Our mission is to prepare Tuck students to lead in the global economy,” says Bernard. “We plan to build on the center’s existing programs to offer even more opportunities for Tuck students to work and study overseas and to research and debate critical global business issues. We will also create a community of scholars and business professionals who will collaborate with us to strengthen our programs and meet their business challenges.”

Bernard will be helped in this effort by Professor Matthew Slaughter, who recently returned from serving on the White House Council of Economic Advisers and who will take Bernard’s place as senior associate director of the center. Bernard and Slaughter will be assisted by Lisa Miller, the center’s associate director. Professor John Owens T’61 will continue his work as director of the Tuck Global Consultancy.
