Spring Splash at the New York Yacht Club |
What brought nearly 200 Tuck alumni to the New York Yacht Club on May 15? The Tuck Club of New York's first Spring Splash, where alums from the classes of 1947-2007 enjoyed cocktails and conversation. Guillermo Jasson T'90, an acting leader of the club, gave a talk on the club's progress since this fall, including the launch of a mentorship program for new graduates, a fall Tuck 'Tails, and the establishment of a Tuck club advisory board, chaired by Fred Whittemore T'54. Dean Paul Danos spoke about the value of alumni in the New York area. And the inimitable Fred Whittemore gave a rousing talk on why an engaged alumni body in the New York area is so important to the school. The club is looking forward to two events on the horizon: a golf outing on June 17 and a cocktail and lecture series on July 16. Mark your calendars and join the fun!

Sailing Club Victory
|
The famous Tuck teamwork was in full force on May 2-3 as Tuck students and alumni put Tuck on top at the Global MBA Trophy held at the Yacht Club of Greece in Athens. Hosted by London Business School, the regatta attracted sailors from 12 MBA schools in Europe and the U.S. After winning the MBA's Cup in Italy last fall, the Tuck Sailing Club was excited to participate in another international MBA race. Five of the seven crew members who sailed in Italy represented Tuck in Greece. Second-year Tuck students Rob Albro, Grey Emmons, John Foglesong, Byron LaMotte, and Bryan O'Neal, and first-year Tuck students Rob Pascal and Pace Ralli sailed the Tuck team to victory. Winning the buoy races on the first day and the 20.2-mile distance race rounding Flava Island off of Piraeus on the second day, Tuck brought home three first-place trophies for the two days of racing and for the overall standing! Generous donations by John Jacquemin T'73 and Mooring Financial along with Peter Georgiopoulos T'87 and General Maritime Corporation allowed the Tuck Sailing Club to participate and win the regatta. "This wonderful mix of students and alums came together to make a Tuck win possible," says Emmons.

Tuck GIVES
Where can you score a series of flying lessons taught by a Tuck student or a genuine New Orleans-style crawfish boil with everyone's favorite dean, Paul Danos? From the Tuck GIVES auction, of course. This year's Tuck GIVES (Grants to Interns and Volunteers for the Environment and Society) event raised $67,400 through silent and live auctions, calendar and raffle sales, and a poker tournament. Funds help support student summer internships in nonprofit, service-based organizations. "Nonprofits are growing in size and number at a tremendous rate, and they can use the skills of savvy MBAs to increase their capacity to serve others," says Pat Palmiotto, director of Tuck's Allwin Initiative for Corporate Citizenship, which helped sponsor the event.

TAG Sets Records
This year's Tuck Annal Giving campaign was the best yet, setting records for revenue and participation. Revenues from alumni and friends reached $5.9 million, up 18 percent from last year. And alumni participation was at an all-time high—67.5 percent of our alumni made a gift to TAG this year, up from last year's 66.2 percent rate. The top 10 business schools on average have alumni participation rates below 30 percent, which makes Tuck's giving rate all the more extraordinary. Kudos to the class of 2007 which hit 99.2 percent participation. And congratulations to the class of 1983 for hitting a revenue record of more than $400,000—the most money raised by a class in TAG's history! Thanks to our alumni and the many TAG volunteers who made this possible. Because of you, Tuck Annual Giving ranks #1 in the world.
