Guest Blog: Kate Head T’13 and Health Care at Tuck

I came to Tuck with two goals: transition into consulting and focus on health care. I still have a lot more that I want to do, but I wanted to take this opportunity to brag about unique aspects of health care at Tuck and the resources available for Tuckies to create their own, individualized, path into health care.

 

Health care cases are being added to core curriculum classes and health care fellows are developing new electives, to ensure that the curriculum adapts to the needs of current students. Tuckies are also lucky enough to have a variety of health care experts come to Hanover and talk about health care in a variety of forums… A few visitors to mention include Ray Gilmartin (former CEO of Merck), Kevin Sharer, (President and CEO of Amgen), John Fernandez (CEO Mass Eye and Ear Hospital), and Derek Yach (SVP of Global Health and Agriculture Policy at PepsiCo).

 

There are also many opportunities to work on external consulting projects that have a health care focus. Students have opportunities to work on health care-focused projects through the Global Consultancy Course or take up leadership opportunities in local health care organizations. There are also opportunities to engage in health care-focused consulting projects with professors or external clients for course credit or fun. And, for the First Year Project, I am in a group of five students that are working to create the business plan for a new Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

 

Lastly, I am one of two T'13s that are enrolled in the new MBA-MPH program between Tuck and the Dartmouth Institute (TDI). To complete both degrees in just over two years, I took Tuck classes this year, then after an eight week internship, I will come back to Hanover in August and take a mixture of TDI and Tuck courses.
