Where in the World are the Tuckies?

By Pete. T'13

If I had a dollar for every mile travelled by Tuckies over Spring Break, I would be retired on a beach in the Caribbean. Over the two week break, Tuckies spread out across the globe! From Kosovo to South Africa, Brazil to Sun Valley, you could find Tuckies on 6 continents.

I chose to join 42 other Tuckies in Japan. Four amazing Japanese students hosted us in their wonderful country. Some of the other trips focused on business, but in Japan, it was all about fun! Our one business trip was to the Toyota factory in Toyota City (amazing!) but the primary focus was to really experience the Japanese culture and the “awesomeness” of Japan. The trek was seven days and each day was jam-packed with stuff to do and see. Two of the highlights were a 10 course dinner at a hot spring resort followed by Karaoke in Kimonos and Tuck Scavenger Hunt in Tokyo followed by Tuck Tails with alums.

The trip exemplified the Tuck spirit of giving back. The Japanese students spent countless hours planning the trip. They gave up their Spring Break to show us their country and made it a once in a lifetime experience for everyone. They even helped us with our pre-trek activities. I travelled with four other people around other parts of Japan the three days before the official start of the trek and the guidance they gave us made it so easy to travel around a country where we didn’t speak the language.

After the trek was over, some people headed back to Hanover, some went to Hawaii, some visited family, but I continued travelling with 12 other Tuckies for 3 nights in Hong Kong. All and all, life is good at Tuck.  Although it was tough to leave, it is good to be back in Hanover and starting Spring term. More details to come from Japan trek . . .
