Grade Disclosure

The Tuck School of Business does not evaluate its MBA students using a traditional grading scale. Instead, students are graded according to the following standards:

  • Honors (H): Indicates a performance which clearly exceeds professional standards and the instructor’s expectations for MBA students.
  • Satisfactory Plus (S+): Indicates a performance which clearly meets professional standards and falls in the higher range of the instructor’s expectations for MBA students.
  • Satisfactory (S): Indicates a performance which meets professional standards and the instructor’s expectations for MBA students.
  • Low Pass (LP): Indicates a performance which is marginal in relation to professional standards and below the instructor’s expectations for MBA students.
  • Fail (F): Indicates a performance which is clearly below professional standards and warrants loss of credit for the work.

To maintain comparability among courses, faculty assign grades according to the following distributions:

  • Honors:
    •  Core: 0% to 15%
    • Elective: 0% to 25%
  • Satisfactory Plus: 25% to 50%
  • Satisfactory: 25% to 50%
  • Low Pass:
    • Core: 0% to 15%
    • Elective: 0% to 10%
  • Fail: 0% to 10%

The only time Tuck calculates a GPA is at the end of the students’ second year, for the sole purpose of ranking the class for Tuck Scholar award designations. This GPA is not comparable to the GPA calculated by schools with more traditional grading schemes. The school does not share our GPA calculation or student rank within their class. If you have questions about Tuck’s grading policies, email tuck.registrar@tuck.dartmouth.edu.

Tuck Career Services does not disclose any grade information during the recruiting process. If you require a transcript for selection or interview purposes, please be sure to include it as a requested document in your Tuck Recruiting posting. We do not prohibit students from disclosing grades.
