Course Description

The Philippines GIX presents a unique opportunity for students to immerse in a fast-growing emerging market. With a population of 100 million people, a booming business process outsourcing sector (enabled by the widespread use of English), and a strong economic diaspora, the Philippines is positioned to be a regional growth engine—despite continued political challenges. This immersive Global Insight Expedition will allow students to experience the reality of an emerging market, developing skills around standing calm through chaos. It will present opportunities to explore unique ingredients of emerging market growth, such as family-owned conglomerates, public/private partnerships, and non-government institutions such as churches and charities. Manila, the base of the GIX, is a low-lying city of 10 million people that provides first-hand exposure to both income inequality and the potential impact of climate change. Field visits to a range of organizations and ample time for students and faculty to discuss and debate the contrasts and similarities between the Philippines and other countries will complement the rich learning experience on the Tuck School campus.
